H.A.L.T.
Hungry or Hurt
Angry or Anxious
Lonely
Tired
There are some people who don't believe that this little acronym can help. In my life it has helped to make me aware of when I might have a weakened self-will (for lack of a better word) and make a poor decision.
God has helped me overcome a few of my addictions. One of which was soda. Yes :-) Soda. I know, it may not seem like an addiction to you. With me however I had to have a soda at least every other day. There were two days where I drank nothing but soda. As a result I became very sick from dehydration. I hadn't had any water to drink.
I may have gone the other way now. I've not had a soda for almost a month. I did have 3 sodas I think after that intial illness. By the time I drank the third one (3 sodas on three different days) my stomach was upset. So now all I drink is lemonade. Still too much sugar and not enough water. But it's not soda. Now I have to cut back on Lemonade hehe.
Anyway I say all this because H.A.L.T. has helped me to be aware of when I am most likely to make a poor decision. I can then follow some advice from the bible when temptation (yes drinking a soda is now a temptation for me) arises.
RUN!!!
:)
Have a great day!!!
May God bless you richly today.
I have had an addiction to soda since I was 5 or 6. I am now 22. I drink every day 2 to 3 liters a day. I drink Mountain Dew no less. I've tried and tried to quit for years, but I keep falling off the wagon. I crave it so bad, especially when I'm stressed (90% of the time). I want to quit, it's just so hard. I'm over weight, have bad skin, and a negative attitude. I think my problems have resulted from the addiction. For me it's not habbit it's definetly an addiction. Thank you for letting me share.

Posted by: santo at November 22, 2003 01:13 AM from 63.241.65.90I also along with my husband am addicted to soda. Our soda of choice is Diet Pepsi. I have drank Diet Pepsi for the last 22 years!!! We drink easily 3-4 2liters a day!! I have gone I'm sure over a month without drinking anything else. I wake up and have a soda and go to bed with a soda. We buy 44oz sodas throughout the day. We have decided to stop this crazyness, we are going cold turkey........it has been 2 full days and I am staying in my room until the desire goes away :) I am trying to drink water and wait for the feeling to subside....lol. I know we'll feel much better as time goes by. Keep us in your prayers please :). Thanks
Posted by: Deb at January 21, 2004 10:42 AM from 68.119.14.127This is the third time that I've gone without a Pepsi or Coke for two days. Each time I stop drinking soda, I become very ill. This morning, I woke up with a horrible headache, dizziness, nausea and persistent thoughts of going to the store to get a Coke. There's something just not right about this! If I don't have macaroni and cheese for a couple of days, I don't wake up with "symptoms". I don't see little dancing pieces of macaroni in my head while I wonder when I can get my next bowl. Perhaps it is just the caffeine, but something is extremely addictive or habit-forming in these soda products. Fortunately, I don't have the same bizarre craving for coffee or tea, which has just as much caffeine... I'm convinced that there's something very harmful in these products. How much money do we spend on just Coke? Why does it cost a dollar for a 20oz serving that probably cost the company 10cents to make? They know you're addicted. It's a big scam. I'm not drinking it anymore.
